Altrusa is an international volunteer service organization of business and professional people, classified by their occupation, dedicated to improving their communities by personal service. "Altrusa" is derived from "Altr" an altruism, which is defined as the practice of unselfish concern for the welfare of others and from "USA" for the United States of America, Where Altrusa began in 1917.

Members of Altrusa unite their varied talents in service to others achieving as a group what individuals cannot do alone.

Members have opportunities to network with each other at monthly meetings, Area workshops, District conferences and International Conventions.
